elections and parties

The last thing you said before going to bed tonight was, "Thank you, Mommy, this was the best birthday ever." We didn't have a great big party, we didn't have anything planned, and you know what, it was absolutely fine with us.

We often try to show you guys how much we love you by buying you nice things and taking you places, (all of which is nice) but sometimes it's just nice to focus all of our attention on you without any distractions. We sometimes forget that what you really need from us aren't material things, but quality time. I promise to try to remember that more often.

Dad and I made it a point to make it all about YOU today. You were ok with not having a party this year, all you really want is for us to be there at your school to celebrate with you and your friends. And, we are more than happy to oblige (with cupcakes and juice in hand).

This was also at the end of your "class elections". Two weeks ago, you came home super excited saying that your class was going to have elections, and that you'd decided to run for class leader. You made campaign posters, asked me for ideas for slogans, and even got your dad on board with your campaign speech. So for the past 2 weeks I'd find little scraps of paper with "Vote for Isabella" EVERYWHERE!

Today, we made it just in time to see the vote count and you won by a landslide 19-2. Congrats, baby! First up, second grade....next up, who knows?

Afterwards, we bought a couple of pizzas and your uncle Ivan bought you an ice cream cake. That's literally all we did, and you still had the time of your life. How lucky are we?
Happy Birthday, Baby.

Happy Birthday Baby!!!

Eight, already! I seriously cannot believe how fast time is going. You're soooo grown and so little at the same time. Thank you for bringing such joy in to my life. Thank you for being my best friend. Words cannot adequately describe how proud I am of you. You are everything that is good and perfect about my life. You are the very best part of me.

I love you. Forever.

Also, to catch you up, here are your all your birthday pasts:

birthday surprise

One of the very first songs I remember you singing is Lights by Ellie Goulding. You would mumble 99% of the lyrics, but this was your SONG for months. We listened to it nonstop in the car, at home....everywhere.

Like I told you earlier, I feel like I needed to give you a proper first concert experience. This was my chance to redeem myself! As soon as I saw that she was coming, I just knew that I had to take you. With your 8th birthday next week, this is the perfect way to kick off the birthday celebrations, kiddo. I really hope you enjoyed yourself as much I enjoyed sharing this with you.
I love you, baby.

Sometimes you just have to jump in a mud puddle because it's there. Never get so old that you forget about having fun.
